Meet our Pause Leaders

Heidi Parkes

Heidi is a hand quilter, mender, and certified yoga therapist living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Heidi exhibits her quilts and mending in galleries and museums, and teaches internationally. Whether sharing her work on Instagram, Zoom, or in person, she instills a sense of improvisation, permission, gentleness, and reflectivity into the experience. Heidi offers a special selection of yoga classes for makers where she cares for active hands, busy eyes, bones familiar with repetition, and the nervous systems of those whose hands are rarely idle.

Jennifer Mercede

Jennifer Mercede is a painter, musician, and all-around creative person from Portland, OR. Her work is full of bright, fun colors, energetic scribbling and doodling, and a stream of conscious words and expression. People often say her work makes them smile. Her unique style has led to some exciting opportunities including a collaboration with Keen shoes, a month-long residency in Hong Kong where she worked with over 400 elementary students to create murals in their art wing, and art shows around the nation. Jennifer first taught at the Makerie in 2012 and is honored to be collaborating with Ali again. She's looking forward to taking the gentle pause with all of you to create some fun, simple art.

We'd love for you to join us for this free online gathering celebrating creativity, self-care, and community, the heart of the Makerie's mission. Bring your quarantine mates, your children, your friends, and your family members. Everyone is welcome.

Let's keep asking ourselves this question:  What message can we spread by making magic with our hands?

We can't wait to see you on Zoom!
