About Event

In 2018, nearly 20,000 Google employees and contractors walked out of the office in protest of the $90 million severance package given to an executive with credible allegations of sexual misconduct.

One of the key people behind the movement was Claire Stapleton, whose internal memos had stirred her co-workers to protest the payout and the sinister shift in Google’s culture.

On this private call for Compound Writing members and Tech Support subscribers, Claire will share her story using the written word to fight one of the most powerful companies on Earth and to help inspire meaningful, lasting change within an entire industry.

Agenda

Claire and Stew Fortier will do a deep dive into:

  • The power of writing: How did Claire use her background in communication to help organize one of the largest walkouts in tech history? How did Claire use internal memos to motivate and mobilize other Googlers?

  • Storytelling: How did Claire use Google’s story and proclaimed values to frame her arguments and motivate people to stand up? What feedback did Claire receive along the way that helped her become a more effective communicator and organizer?

  • Writing as a lifelong practice: Now that she’s left Google, how has Claire been using writing to help continue her impact on the tech industry?

Afterward, we’ll do a Q&A with the group where Claire can answer any questions that come up.

As always, bring some coffee and a notebook ;)
